A Quick, Heavy Metal Christmas Post

Just so this post has a graphic to post, please enjoy this awesome commission of art by FotB, Disney Imagineer, Peter Carsillo.

Shout out!

The Blog loves the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

Almost as much as he loves The Grinch.

So does The Blog Jr.

In fact, while The Blog plans to catch their Christmas concert every year, it has never happened.

The Blog Jr. has seen them, live, twice.

Not jealous, at all.

Much.

Tonight, Mrs. Blog informed me that she has no idea who they are.

Killing two birds with one stone...

I am posting the following YouTube™ links...

So that you may enjoy them...

And, to make it easier for me to introduce TSO to Mrs. Blog, tomorrow.

Watch here...

Here...

Here...

And, here.

Random Sh!t: 12/13/13, UPDATE, Ted Nugent Edition

Ted Nugent is the gift that keeps on giving.

But first...

A brief follow up to The Blog's last post.

After a nearly 36 hour disappearance, Fox "News" anchor Megyn Kelly, known (up until Wednesday night,) to outside observers like me as, "The Smart One," returned to the airwaves, no not airwaves. What do we call a cable broadcast? Damned if I know. The cable-waves? Whatever.

I know. Still sexist. But, it is what it is.
I apologize.

                                                                  "Not sexist. Sexy."

Anyway, Megyn Kelly returned to Fox and issued an apology for her tone deaf, historically ignorant comments about the melanin content of the indisputably historical figures, Jesus and Santa Claus.

I'm sorry. Did I say "apology?"

I meant...

Justification.

See? The problem wasn't Ms. Kelly's clueless-ness.

The problem was that some people just can't take a joke.

Oh, well then. When she puts it that way...

The Blog feels bad, now.

But, since we are on the subject...

While The PC was busy not getting Ms. Kelly's nuanced sense of satire...

He nearly missed one interesting point.

According to Ms. Kelly,
"Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable, doesn't mean it has to change."
As a television production employee who has endured countless hours of mandatory sexual harassment seminars, this Blog has to say that Ms. Kelly may be mistaken about that.

I don't know. Maybe the policies at CBS are different than those at News Corp.

Given the fact that Bill "Falafel/Loofah" O'Reily remains employed by Fox...

Maybe, "Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable, doesn't mean it has to change," might be part of News Corp.'s mission statement.

Moving on...

                              ______________________________________________

The Blog actually spotted this actual bumper sticker on an actual car's actual bumper, today.

Back in 2004, just after Bush/Cheney was reelected to the position of the most powerful man (men) in the world...

The PC printed up a t-shirt that said, "Franken/Moore: 2008."

Just to annoy Republicans.

Because The Blog wasn't serious. He was just being satirical.

Al Franken, at that time, was still a radio personality/comedy writer/performer.

Michael Moore was, and still is, an "agent provocateur."

In English, "A hilarious shit stirrer."

The PC never would have imagined that, by 2008, Al Franken would be "Senator Al Franken."

So, The Blog want's to give this car owner the benefit of the doubt.

This car owner is just being "funny," to get a rise out of Obama loving liberals.

Right?

He can't actually believe that The Nuge, a proud pedophile and pants shitting draft dodger...

Thanks to Wonkette.com for this graphic.

...is a credible candidate for President.

I laughed.

Because, contrary to Megyn Kelly's claim...

Liberals do know a joke when they see one.

The PC just worries that Conservatives don't.

Random S#!t: 12/13/13 Edition

The Blog hasn't posted in a couple of days.

Which, as has been discussed in this space before...

Is not healthy for a blog that wants to continue to attract regular readers.

Bottom line...

The PC is suffering from all sorts of fatigue.

Physical fatigue.

Mental fatigue.

"Compassion fatigue" (as my therapist friend calls it, and tells me that I should be suffering from, in spades.)

But, mostly, your Uncle PC is suffering from "War on Christmas" battle fatigue.

The stupid keeps coming faster than I can blog about it.

For example...

The Blog's favorite small town, right-wing blogger, Katherine O'Brien Wilhelm, has chimed in on the subject of the one holiday that glorifies the concept of "Peace on Earth. Goodwill toward all."

I know, I know. The King James translation of The Bible says, "Peace on Earth. Goodwill toward MEN."

It's just us Godless, liberal, atheists that keep trying to make the Word of the Invisible Sky Wizard seem just a little bit less sexist.

C O'B W's latest blog tosses all of the predictable Christian Right talking points into a Palinesque word salad.

She just wants us non-Christians to understand that her holiday is an exclusive event and, while the rest of us can do what we want, Christmas is for Christians.

But, don't you dare say, "Happy Holidays!"

Then there is Fox "News" blonde, Megyn Kelly, the one that most of us non-Fox viewers look to for some actual "fair and balancedness."

Yes, yes. The Blog went out of his way to choose a photo from Ms. Kelly's recent "GQ" photo spread, rather than a more staid, professional journalist photo.

Because, as Mrs. Larry Flynt once said to Mr. Larry Flynt in your Blog's presence...
"Sex sells, you dummy!"
Because Larry Flynt, also, doesn't know that water is wet and King Kong is a big monkey.

And, if Fox is okay with Megyn's super hot photos, who am I to object?

Anyway, what the fuck was I talking about?

Oh, yeah.

If you haven't seen one story or another on the internets in the past 24 hours about Ms. Kelly's assertion that both Jesus and Santa Claus are indisputably, historically, factually white men, then you probably do not have access to the internets.

(Which would mean that you are not reading this, right now.)

There has been so much commentary on this in the last day that The PC can add nothing else to the topic.

If you need to catch up, Google™ "Megyn Kelly white Santa Claus," and you will get something in the neighborhood of 63,000 results.

The Blog has no facts to back this up, but as far as you know, at this point, the Batman action figure collection behind The Blog's desk is currently covered with bits of flesh, bone and blood. The result of The Blog's head, actually, exploding.

So, I am not going to devote a single word about that, tonight.

*ahem*

Instead, tonight, how's about some Random Shit?

Have you seen this viral video?

Conan O'Brien (no relation to Ms. Wilhelm, as far as I know,) Kevin Hart, Ice Cube and a Lyft car are together, as you have always wanted them.

The PC has never used a Lyft car. It just seems a little bit weird.

Average folks and their personal cars as freelance taxis.

                                                            And that fluffy pink 'stache.

It's like Craig'sList on wheels.  (IYKWIM)

And, while I love Conan...

Is it just me?

                                                                         Or, is Conan...

20 minutes into the future...

                                                                      Max Headroom?

In entertainment news...

The Disney Channel has announced that it is casting for a new TV movie called...

The movie will follow the lives of the children of classic Disney villains.

Things have gotten weird at Disney and I'm okay with that.

(I will get to that "Once Upon a Time" post soon. Pinky swear.)

Unfriended

Your old Uncle PC was "unfriended" over on the Facebook™, yesterday.

C'est dommage.

(Which is French for "That's dommage.")

It's not the first time.

And, if it is the last time, then I will have not done my job.

But, I think that this is the first time that someone has sent me a private message alerting my to the unfriending.

This person is an old friend.

And when I say "old," I mean "old."

We were friends in junior high and the beginning of high school.

So we're talking in the neighborhood of 40 years ago or so.

We grew apart in our sophomore year, when his parents went over the deep end and began taking him to actual, honest to God, evangelical tent revivals.

Can I get an "AMEN?"

After a couple of months of hearing about how everything a normal high school kid does in high school...

...Movie dates... dark + girl = evil, school dances... boy + girl + dark x [bodies touching] + rock and roll = evil. And about that rock and roll... evil, evil, evil.

This friend was the first to inform me that my favorite band's name, KISS, stood for "Knights In Satan's Service." Because, he knew stuff.

...Was evil...

And, because three nice Jewish boys and one devout Catholic
(who was known to genuflect before his big solo ballad and
to tell the audience, "God bless you all!" after it was done,)
                                                   were all about "Satan's service."

Bottom line... even at the tender age of 16, this young bloggling had a pretty low threshold for pious bullshit.

Fast forward to two years ago...

Two old men reconnect via the social media.

Nothing earth shattering.

Just a "Hey, good to see you! Hope all is well." sort of reunion.

Jump to yesterday...

Witness...

The PC's reply...

"No worries."

The PC likes to keep things civil on the Facebook™.

Jumping into the mud and getting my rude on is what this space is for.

So, let's break it down, shall we?

In no particular order.

In his message, he begins and ends with, "my (old) friend."

He believes that debating our political differences would not be "beneficial to our friendship."

As I have mentioned in the past, I actually do have a dozen or so "Conservative" friends, maybe more. And, I am actually "friended" with most of them on Facebook™.

I love them all, for who they are, to varying degrees.

And, they love me, for who I am.

It's all good.

Many of them ignore my, admittedly, many liberal leaning posts.

A few of them choose to engage in thoughtful debate, which I am happy to entertain.

But, those who do engage, all seem to want to use some variation if the phrase, "my friend." As if to remind me that, even though we disagree, there are no hard feelings.

And, I'm okay with that. But, in case they need to be reminded, I get it.

He (I feel the need to give "him" a name. Let's call him "Alec." As in the right-wing, think-tank, lobbyist group, "A.L.E.C.") feels that my Facebook™ posts have become "more and more polarized."

"Polarized."

Since Day One on Facebook™, my posts have reflected my values and beliefs.

And, by "beliefs," I mean, "verifiable facts," because I don't pull "beliefs" out of my ass.

So, when "Alec" says, "polarized," he really means, posts that reflect the opposite of his beliefs.

Posts that he won't (or can't) offer reasonable discourse in response to.

*Grammar Police!!!!!*

"Never end a sentence with a preposition."

Okay, fine.

Posts that he won't (or can't) offer reasonable discourse in response to, because he is an asshole.

Happy?

"Alec" began his message by asking me to "please [not] be offended."

Do you know what?

I'm not offended that he has "unfriended" me.

I am offended by his choice of method.

We have, seriously, not had any sort of meaningful conversation in nearly four decades.

He could have quietly "unfriended" me  and I never would have noticed.

He could have chosen to "ignore" my posts, in which case, we would have remained "friends" without his ever having to see my posts.

It amazes me when a genius, and I am not being sarcastic, here (for a change...)

*"Alec" was one of those guys that was the first to sign up for the computer lab, when the high school got one. He was a "nerd" before Fonzie's writers coined the term.*

It amazes me when a genius, a guy who spoke COBOL before it was cool, can't figure out how Facebook™ works.

I'm not offended that he "unfriended" me.

I'm offended by his pious, high horse, need to tell me that the only way that he could possibly hold me in "the highest regard," is to pretend that my views do not exist.

And, I am gob-smacked by his self delusion that his own views are "moderate."

So, "No worries, "Alec."

Don't let the door hit you on your way out...

"My friend."

_____________________________

So, you ask.

If I'm not offended, why am I giving him so much of my attention?

Good question!

The "unfriending" by "Alec" is not the problem.

It's a symptom.

The "conservative, right-wing, tea party," propaganda machine is imploding, on the eve of the 2014, mid-term election cycle.

The not at all liberal media is panicking.

"What to do? What to do?"

The only answer is, like my "old friend" "Alec," has chosen to do, is to silence progressive voices, and pretend that they don't exist.

For about a decade, KTLK 1150 AM radio, has been the only progressive voice in Los Angeles.

KTLK has been an oasis in a sea of right-wing talk radio.

KTLK has, since it's inception, hosted liberal talkers like Al Franken, Thom Hartman, Ed Shultz, Rachel Maddow and Ron Reagan. Their current line up is Bill Press, Stephanie Miller, Randi Rhodes and a couple of local people.

On January 2nd, 2014, KTLK owner, Clear Channel, is moving the station to the far right.

In past years, KTLK has been known as "All That's Left," "Progressive Talk" and "Your Voice."

But, on January 2nd, KTLK will become "The Patriot: True American Values."

They are evicting liberal talkers Bill Press, Stephanie Miller and Randi Rhodes, and replacing them with Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and the Messianic conspiracy theorist, Glen Beck.

Not because these voices have been absent in Los Angeles. Every one of them have been enjoying air-time on L.A. radio on other stations.

But rather, to silence the progressive voices in the year leading up to the 2014, mid-term elections.

Because the Republican ideology is, "If you can't beat them, fair and square, play dirty and drown them out."

Your Uncle PC sent an email to the programmers at Clear Channel.

If you live in Los Angeles, I invite you to send a message, yourself.

If you don't live in L.A., understand that your town is next.

You may copy and paste this one, or, write one of your own.

"I am sickened and disgusted to learn of Clear Channel's plan to shift Los Angeles' only progressive voice to the far right.

"The Patriot" my ass.

Rush, Sean and Glen hate everything that American democracy is about.

Go right ahead and make your change.
Enjoy your profits pandering to the fringe right-wing.

You have lost this loyal listener, as well as thousands of other progressive Angelians.

I'm feeling betrayed.

You still have time. Please rethink this move."

But, there is no harm in trying.

A Post That Has Nothing to do with Christmas

Cartoon characters die all the time.

It's what cartoon characters do.

There was a time that people understood that.

A week later, they are back. Alive as ever.

Because they are cartoon characters.

Back in the day, Daffy Duck got his beak shot to the other side of his head by Elmer Fudd on a regular basis.

Never mind that.

How about the time, (and, maybe, The Blog is dating himself here...)

That time that Daffy, dressed in devil horns and a cape, drank gasoline and swallowed a lit match.

Because, in those days, internal immolation was hilarious.

Because, we knew that he would be back next week, alive and well.

Because, he was a cartoon character.

Wyle E. Coyote had more lives than a cat.

Because, he was a cartoon character.

"South Park's" Kenny dies every damned week...

                                                     "You bastards! You killed Kenny!"

Because, he was a cartoon character.

Some years ago, DC comics decided to kill off Superman.

The Blog owns an actual copy of the Metropolis, IL newspaper, "The Daily Planet," that covered Superman's tragic death.

A year later, it turned out, the demise of Superman was greatly exaggerated.

Because, he was a cartoon character.

Sticking with a successful P.R. theme, DC comics crippled Batman.

A year later, Bruce Wayne enjoyed a miraculous recovery.

Because, he was a cartoon character.

Which brings us to the recent death, during the November ratings sweeps, of "The Family Guy's" most popular character...

                                                                               Brian.

The news upset more people than the deaths of Paul Walker and Nelson Mandela, combined.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

Brian is returning to the living.

This news does not surprise this Blog.

Because, Brian is a cartoon character.

Coming back to life is what cartoon characters do.

Did I Just See That Happen?

Are you as sick of "War on Christmas" posts as I am?

Good. Because The Blog is going to take a brief respite from "WoC" posts.

I wish I could tell you that The Blog is done with "WoC" posts for the season.

I really do.

But, there are still a few seriously crazy stories waiting in deck, that I may still have to weigh in on.

But, not tonight.

Instead, I will step back from those stories, while keeping with the theme of last night's post.

That theme being...

Christmas themed commercials.

In a general way, the topic of Christmas/ Holiday themed commercials could probably provide blog fodder for a week's worth of commentary.

But, that's not the plan, tonight.

Tonight, The Blog will focus, with laser intensity, on two, specific, recent TV commercials.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, one commercial garnered a crazy amount of attention, pro and con.

That was the Joe Boxer underwear ad entitled "Show Your Joe."

Or, as The PC likes to call it, "Jingle Balls."

Watch it here.

Wow, this ad pissed a lot of people off.

And, I get it.

The Blog is not a prude, (and, The Blog actually thought the ad was genius,) but he is not insensitive to the, um, sensitivities of the, um, prudish.

The ad definitely pushed the envelope.

As far as The Blog knows, there is no truth to the rumor that Joe Boxer made an alternative version, replacing the secular "Jingle Bells" with the more religious "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day," to placate the American Family Association.

But, wait.

Stay put.

Don't go away.

I'll be right back.

Okay, I'm back.

I just ran over to last night's post to check something.

Both Sears and Kmart are on the AFA's "Nice" list.

Which is weird, because Joe Boxer products are available, exclusively, through...

Wait for it...

Sears and Kmart.

Make of that what you will.

But, while folks were wringing their hands over that ad, much like the way those actors were ringing their loosely encumbered genitalia, another ad passed quietly under the radar.

It was the first in a series of ads for Honda's "Happy Honda Days" sales.

As far as I can tell, the ad aired two or three times, then disappeared.

But, true to their motto, those Honda dealers are "Helpful Honda Dealers," and, after an absence of about a week, the ad was posted on the YouTube™, via the Honda Facebook page.

However, if the Honda Corp. would like to kick a few $$$, (or an Accord,) The Blog's way, The Blog would not be above accepting their generosity.

*End Disclaimer*

Watch it here. Stay with it until the very end.

Did you see it?

Or is it just me?

Did they not perpetrate the dirtiest joke in the history of American TV commercials, let alone "Holiday" themed ads?

These guys are trying to shove a Christmas tree up... well... jeez... do I have to spell it out for you?

I mean, OUCH!

Jesus fucking Christ, OUCH!

Am I right?

Please, tell me it isn't just me.

And, for what it's worth, (or might be worth to The Blog, [hint, hint,])...

Happy Honda Days!

And, OUCH!
