The PC's Favorite Things

As promised last night, The Blog is taking a lesson from Oprah Winfrey and continuing the celebration of one year in the blogosphere and giving you, my blogglitts, some presents.

Yes, it's time for...

                                      MY FAVORITE THIIIIIINNNNNGGGGGSSSS!!!

*pause for wild applause*

The PC would like to give you all some of his actual, favorite "things."

A bottle of 30 year old Glenfiddich Single Malt!

A box of hand rolled Dominican Republic cigars!

A first edition, mint condition copy of "The Dark Knight Returns!"

A Keurig Vue coffee maker!

A 2013 Fiskar Karma plug-in hybrid sports car!

"YOU get a car and YOU get a car and YOU get a car..."

An all expense paid vacation in Reykjavik, Iceland!

He would like to give you those things.

But, as we established last night, this is a blog.

A pile of html code converted to pixels on your computer monitor.

Published with an annual production budget of $0.00.

So, none of that is going to happen.

Sorry.

The favorite things that I can share with you are some equally internet based treasures.

A handful of The Blog's favorite blogs and a couple of web sites.

So, almost as good as a $100,000.00 car.

Let's get started, shall we?

First up, the first blog that The PC ever became a regular follower of.

Dave Barry is a Pulitzer Prize winning humor columnist, author, novelist, lead guitarist for "the wealthiest garage band in America," The Rock Bottom Remainders and, according to Playboy magazine, "the funniest man in America."

Not a blog in the usual sense, but a compendium of the day's weirdest news stories with brief commentary and an occasional, actual column. (Dave retired as a newspaper columnist several years ago. So you will only find his new stuff here.) And stick around for the comments in the "comments" section. Dave has some of the smartest, wittiest followers around.

*Full Disclosure*

The Blog stole plagiarized lifted borrowed the habit of referring to himself as The Blog from Dave. "Blogglitts" is also his.

*There! I have gotten that off my chest!*

#DOORMAN

Doorman is a New York acting school graduate making a living the way so many New York actors do, working for a three star hotel in Manhattan.

What sets him apart from other hotel employees is...

He writes about it.

Sometimes angry, often vulgar, now and then touching and always hilarious.

Not to mention an invaluable insight into what to do and what not to do to get the best service (or not) when traveling.

In a bit of bad timing, just today, Doorman announced that his blogging would be sporadic for a while, as he is pursuing a new project. Even so, he has about two years worth of posts on his blog. Everyone of them well worth reading.

Next up...

Two blogs from two retired television sitcom writers.

Ken Levine and Earl Pomerantz both have Emmys™ on their bookshelves. Ken was a writer on "M*A*S*H," "Cheers," "Fraiser" and was the show runner on "Wings." Earl wrote regularly for most of the classic MTM Productions shows in the 1970s as well as a little show called "Cosby."

So when it comes to funny writing, neither one of them are slouches.

And, they write about everything and anything.

The PC wants to be Ken and/or Earl if when he grows up.

And the final entry in the blog category...

Lee Papa, aka: "The Rude Pundit."

Pure, liberal politics.

Vulgar. Obscene. Shocking. And, well, rude.

 And, very, very funny!

When it comes to those things, The Rude One makes your humble PC look like a fucking Boy Scout.

Oh! Did I mention "Smart?"

By day, The Rude Pundit is Professor Lee Papa, professor of English at CUNY-Staten Island.

Once again, no amateur when it comes to the written word.

Rude is a weekly regular on The Stephanie Miller Show.

Which is a perfect segue to a couple of The Blog's favorite non-blog web sites.

First, the aforementioned Stephanie Miller.

The daughter of Republican V.P. candidate Bill Miller, (he was Barry Goldwater's running mate,) Steph hosts a morning radio talk show, simulcast (for now) on Current TV and a FoTB. (Friend of The Blog)

Next...

Another Stephanie Miller Show regular, John Fugelsang.

The son of a former Jesuit priest and an ex-nun, ("I became a comedian because I can't afford therapy.") John can argue Christianity and politics better and funnier than anyone.

And finally...

If Woody Guthrie and Tom Lehrer had a baby, he would be Roy Zimmerman.

Roy is a folk(ish) singer whose music I have shared here a few times before.

Like the rest of the people that I have introduced you to tonight, he is smart and funny.

So, there you go.

If you haven't figured out the pattern here, these are all people who have influenced The PC's style and inspired him to take to the keyboard and do what he does.

The Premature Curmudgeon (That's Me!) hopes that you will enjoy them as much as I do. And that you will still have time to come by here most every night.

As The PC begins his second year of blogging, know that I appreciate all of you and thank you for your support and feedback!

Namaste (Which The Blog has been assured is Latin for "fuck off!")

  1. What a great idea to share your faves, thanks!

I can't help but wonder how long it took you do design your Opra-esque logo at the top of tonight's blog. Impressive!
